$25,000 Research Trust grants close 24 June 2024

Three program Grants are up for grabs through the AAG Research Trust, but act fast - applications close June 24, 2024! The AAG Research Trust is offering

1. Hal Kendig Research Development Program (HKRDP):

  • Open to early career researchers (not practitioners) with up to or equal to 5 years full time equivalent experience.
  • Up to 2 grants of $25,000 each in 2024.
  • Aim: Support research benefiting vulnerable older people, focusing on psycho-social aspects of ageing, and help build grant track records.

2. Strategic Innovation Program (SIP):

  • Open to any AAG member, preference for early to mid-career individuals up to or equal to 8 years full time equivalent experience) the award of their highest qualification or commencement in their most senior role.
  • Up to 2 grants of $25,000 each in 2024, possibly a third through partnership with the Dementia Australia Research Foundation (DARF).
  • Aim: Enhance ageing experience through innovative policy and practice .

3. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Grant:

  • For Indigenous Australian researchers or practitioners.
  • Proposals with a substantive focus on the health and wellbeing of older Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, and is Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander-led.
  • One grant up to $25,000 in 2024.
  • Aim: Build skills, capacity, and evidence-based knowledge on ageing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to inform policy and programs

AAG SECG webinar recap: Ageing research in action & what's next!



The AAG Student and Early Career Group (SECG) recently hosted a webinar on May 31st titled "Translating Research in Ageing into Practice." Experts shared insights drawn from their diverse backgrounds, with a focus on achieving effective, evidence-based outcomes for older Australians.

Facilitated by SECG Professional Development and Events working group members Kaylee Rudd and Robyn Lewis, the session featured insightful presentations from Prof Alison Hutchinson, Dr Emma Lea, and Dr Amy Page. Their expertise provided valuable perspectives and experiences on navigating the transition of research into practical application. We extend our sincere gratitude for their time and contributions.

Mental health webinar series: Episode 3 Depression recognition and management

AAG is pleased to support the 2024 National Mental Health Webinar Series, convened by Prof Joseph Ibrahim, Professor at the Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care at La Trobe University.

This series of five free webinars addresses topics relating to access to mental health services for older people, wellness and social inclusion, mental health presentations and crisis management. They are designed for aged care staff, nurses, facility managers, allied health staff and medical practitioners.

Episode 3 of the series:

  • Takes place on Wednesday 3 July, from 1-2 pm

  • Addresses Depression recognition and management

  • Features a case presentation by Prof Joseph Ibrahim and a keynote presentation Scientia Prof Henry Brodaty AO, Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing, University of New South Wales

  • Includes a panel discussion with subject matter experts: Scientia Prof Henry Brodaty AO, Prof Sunil Bhar, Dr Deborah Koder, Jessica Croughton RN as detailed on the registration page.
