National Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) Roundtable on next week!!

Join a national online roundtable for organisations supporting older people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

Thursday, 23rd April 2026

11:00AM to 1:00PM AEST

Hosted by Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care, this roundtable meeting brings together small ethno-specific and multicultural organisations, larger Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) providers, and government agencies to strengthen collaboration, share resources, and explore sector-specific challenges.

As aged care reforms continue to evolve, it is crucial to equip CALD CHSP organisations with the necessary tools and strategies to sustain and enhance their services. The roundtable will focus on:

  • strengthening capability and compliance
  • sharing resources and expertise
  • shaping advocacy priorities.

Characterising Informal Care in Older Individuals Receiving Long-Term Home Care Support: A National Epidemiological Study

In a recent Australasian Journal on Ageing study, AAG SECG National Professional Development and Events Lead, Dr Tesfahun C. Eshetie (lead investigator), along with AAG members Dr Janet K. Sluggett and Prof Maria C. Inacio and other contributors, examined national trends in unpaid care among older people receiving long-term home care.

Using data from over 233,000 Australians, the team shows a clear decline in reported availability of informal carers between 2012 and 2019, with notable differences by gender, dementia status and geography. Highlighting the critical role of informal carers, the findings reveal growing pressure on formal services and point to urgent, targeted policy action to support informal carers, especially in disadvantaged, remote, and inner-city areas.

Read on to explore how robust epidemiological evidence can inform smarter policy and better outcomes for older Australians.
