AAG Research Trust Grants open

RM Gibson Program

The RM Gibson Program supports early career researchers and practitioners working across the multidisciplinary field of ageing. Its aim is to develop and support the next generation of researchers in ageing. In 2023, the RM Gibson Program is offering:

  • Up to three grants of up to $10,000 (inc GST) each, for projects up to 18 months in duration; and
  • A possible additional grant of up to $10,000 (inc GST), for projects up to 18 months in duration for applications with a substantive dementia focus, made possible through a partnership between the AAG Research Trust and the Dementia Australia Research Foundation (DARF).

The Strategic Innovation Program

The Strategic Innovation Program facilitates dynamic and responsive research that improves the experience of ageing through innovation in policy and practice. In 2023, two grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded to support early and mid-career researchers in ageing who are within eight years post-PhD (considering career interruption) and/or practitioners working in ageing.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander focus

A dedicated Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander-led grant of up to $25,000 is available for applications involving older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. In so doing, its aim is to:

  • Support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander early career researchers and practitioners working across the multidisciplinary field of ageing to build their skills and capacity.
  • Develop evidence-based knowledge about ageing in Indigenous Australian communities that takes an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander perspective and standpoint to inform policy and program development.

More information

The Research Trust pages on the AAG website provide information on each grant, including aims, eligibility, assessment criteria and application guidelines. Applications must be made through the Research Trust webpage.

Welcome to new AAG Division chairs and committee members

AAG’s State and Territory divisions host a range of educational and networking events, and are an important way for our diverse community of members to build and maintain professional networks. These divisions are managed by volunteer committees of AAG members, who share their time, expertise and passion.

Today, we’re pleased to welcome new Division chairs and committee members:

Queensland Division Co-chairs: Cherylee Treloar and Dr Xanthe Golenko

Cherylee is CEO of Footprints in Brisbane Inc., a respected not-for-profit community-based organisation that delivers community-based support and clinical services. She is Deputy Chairperson of the Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA).

Xanthe has a strong interest in aged care policy and organisational culture and is passionate about social connection. As a researcher, she is dedicated to exploring innovative approaches to service delivery that are evidence-based, sustainable and effective in improving the quality of life for older people accessing aged care services.

Western Australia Division Chair: Dr Barbara Blundell

Barbara is a senior lecturer in Social Work, and a teaching and research academic in the School of Allied Health at Curtin University. Her research interests include aged and disability care and caregiving, elder abuse, human rights, and advocacy.

Thank you

While welcoming these new members, we take the opportunity to acknowledge immediate past chairs for their valued contribution to AAG at the local and national levels:

  • Queensland: Prof Evonne Miller and Dr Katrina Radford
  • Western Australia: Dr Elissa Burton

Public consultation on international standards

Standards Australia is considering the adoption of two published International Standards related to ageing. Consultation is now underway to gauge the level of support and value for these two standards among industry peers and statutory bodies:

  • Ageing societies — Framework for dementia-inclusive communities - Standards Australia AS ISO 25550
  • Ageing societies — General requirements and guidelines for an age-inclusive workforce - Standards Australia AS ISO 25552

To access these documents and provide comment:

  • Go to www.standards.org.au
  • Find the dark blue menu button for ‘Public Comment’
  • Create a Standards Australia account (so that Standards Australia can respond to your comments)
  • Search for the items listed above, and have your say

The consultation period ends on 23 March 2023. We encourage AAG members to review and comment on these two items.

We thank AAG member Dr Sabrina Pit for sharing this opportunity. Sabrina is the Australian representative on the International Standard Organisation Technical Committee for Ageing Societies. She is available to assist any members wanting to contribute to this consultation ([email protected]).
