AAG Tasmania Division Committee

About

The Tasmania Division of the AAG provides local events for members. We provide opportunities to hear from international, national, and local speakers about innovations and research in the field of ageing. Our events also provide networking opportunities for our diverse membership, which includes aged care workers, allied health professionals, nurses and medical professionals. Basically, anyone interested in improving the experience of ageing. We provide links to the national body and scholarships to help members attend the annual national conference. We are a group of friendly people who endeavour to provide connections locally and nationally for people interested in gerontology.

Bursaries to attend the 2026 AAG Conference

The AAG Tasmanian Division will provide two bursaries of $525 each to support two AAG student members attending the 2026 AAG Conference. The bursaries are available to students who are not receiving other funding to attend the conference and whose abstracts have been accepted by the Conference Scientific Committee. Applications for 2026 are open from 30 July to 30 August 2026. The bursary funds are to be used directly to support attendance at the National Conference, either for travel expenses or to contribute to the cost of conference registration fees. The AAG Tasmanian Division Committee will assess all applications. Any Committee member who has applied for a bursary will be recused from the selection process. Applications will be assessed and applicants will be formally notified of the outcome by 30 September 2026.

Eligibility criteria:
Scholarships are available to current Tasmanian AAG Student members. Applicants must be attending the full AAG Conference program in the year of application and presenting their research findings via an oral presentation, poster, ThinkTank, or art presentation. Applicants do not need to have their abstracts accepted at the time of submitting their bursary application; however, they must provide proof of abstract acceptance as soon as it is received.

Expectations of successful applicants:
Successful applicants are expected to acknowledge the support of the AAG Tasmanian Division during their conference presentation. They are responsible for arranging their own travel, accommodation, and conference registration, and may then seek reimbursement from the AAG Tasmanian Division Treasurer by providing evidence of costs (for example, receipts or a bank statement). Successful applicants are also required to submit a one-page report on their experience at the AAG Conference, which may be used or promoted online, for example quoted on the AAG Tasmanian Division webpage or posted on the AAG SECG blog. If invited, successful applicants may also be asked to present their research at an AAG Tasmanian Division event.

How to apply:
Applications must be submitted via the online form and must include:

  1. Applicant details, including contact information, current position, and current institution.
  2. The title of the proposed conference presentation.
  3. A paragraph of 250 words or less outlining why the applicant should receive the bursary and how it would benefit them, their research, and their future career in gerontology.
  4. A copy of the submitted conference abstract.
