The David Wallace Address was established to honour the life of Dr David Wallace, a founding member of AAG and a pioneer of gerontology and geriatric medicine in Australia. The Address is offered to an exceptional contributor to gerontology in Australia.
A physician from Goulburn in New South Wales , David is credited with founding the association now known as AAG. This came about after David attended the 4th International Congress of Gerontology in Italy in 1957 and returned to Australia with the inspiration of setting up an Australian society of gerontology.
David was actively involved in AAG throughout his life; he was our first secretary, and President from 1969-71 (more about David Wallace).
The David Wallace Address is one way AAG recognises and celebrates Australian thought leaders in gerontology. Recipients are invited to present a keynote address at AAG's National Conference. The occasion is formally acknowledged with a plaque.
