Report from #IIDRN23
In an August T3, we announced that AAG member Kylie Sullivan had received an AAG Research Trust scholarship to support her attendance at the International Indigenous Dementia Research Network (IIDRN) Annual Conference in Honolulu in November 2023.
IIDRN brought together some 150 attendees from many Indigenous communities globally.
'There was fantastic content, informative presentations and poster exhibits... and I made amazing connections and collaborations' said Kylie after returning home.
'There was also opportunity for attendees to form special interest groups, mentor/mentee sessions and a very inspiring Elders Panel'.
Kylie works in the Aboriginal Ageing Team at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA). In addition to presenting on 'Walking together', Kylie is a member of the IIDRN Executive Committee.
'I can only see that the movement toward equality and enhancing the social and emotional wellbeing and self-determination of my people and other Indigenous communities worldwide as a positive and upward trend with us all working together, sharing our knowledge and forming partnerships in these spaces.'
Kylie sent 'a huge thank you' to AAG and the AAG Research Trust for awarding her with the scholarship.
'There is no way I would have ever imagined myself presenting in front of an audience, but now I'm thinking of ways I can inspire other Aboriginal people to do the same.'
