AAG Vic Ageing Well event

How can it be April already? With the weeks passing so quickly, this is a reminder about AAG Victoria Division's one-day conference on Friday 3 May 2024.

Under the theme of 'Ageing well: Self-care - Mind and body', this in-person event will bring together academics, industry partners and community members to explore what it means to age well.

This is a rare opportunity to have leading researchers and practitioners in ageing, physical activity and mindfulness in one room, as well as a lived experience panel discussion, an interactive session on mindfulness, a self-care success panel and a body-mapping workshop.

Details are on the AAG website.

Embolden and Old is Beautiful

Last August, AAG proudly supported Embolden2023, an initiative of Celebrate Ageing Ltd, led by Dr Catherine Barrett, AAG's 2019 Glenda Powell Travelling Fellow.

Under the theme 'Words make worlds', Embolden2023 drew on theories of language as a powerful tool for change. Resources from the event are now available on the Embolden2023 webpage.

Celebrate Ageing Ltd has also recently launched the #OldisBeautiful Campaign Kit Against Ageism. The kit has been developed for service providers and community leaders to facilitate an #OldisBeautiful campaign, as Catherine describes in the launch video.

Rainbow aged care study

AAG is proud to be a partner on a first-of-its-kind study that will investigate how Australia's aged care sector can enhance service delivery to cover a wider demographic of gender and sexual diversity.

Led by Southern Cross University's Professor Mark Hughes, the Co-creating rainbow-inclusive care for gender and sexually diverse people in residential aged care research project aims to provide evidence-based recommendations and resources to promote the inclusion of gender and sexually diverse people in residential aged care and provide a foundation for improving their health outcomes. Featuring co-creation, co-design and co-research methods with LGBTQ+ individuals as active participants, the study will involve a national survey of residential care workers and field research in Queensland and Western Australia.

AAG's Policy and Research Manager, Dr Amber Mills, is an associate investigator on the project.
