AAG Hot Topic for 2024

We are pleased to announce that AAG's Hot Topic for 2024 is "Ageing 'well' in the 21st century."

AAG's annual Hot Topic provides a focal point for policy and advocacy activities, including publications, roundtables, workshops, webinars and Divisional events. This year, it allows for wide multidisciplinary participation, creativity and diversity, inviting a range of evidence-based perspectives on the factors influencing the experience of ageing 'well' in the 21st century.

This year's Hot Topic is inspired by AAG's 60th anniversary and reflects member input and feedback collected through the polls and buzz sessions conducted last year by our Policy and Research team, under the leadership of Dr Amber Mills. Members can access the infographics summarising the outcomes of these forums through our resource library (search for 'infographic').

AAG 500 blog

In this month's AAG 500 blog, AAG member Dr Ruth Brookman from The MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development at Western Sydney University presents Racing into a healthy lifestyle: Evaluating a cycling competition in residential care.

The Road Worlds Competition for seniors began in Norway in 2013. Ruth describes that it is one example of an innovative exercise program that seeks to meet the challenge of safely increasing physical activity for older people in care. This international competition incorporates visual technology and social engagement, with residents participating in an annual international virtual cycling competition using an adaptive stationary bike.

In 2022, Ruth received an RM Gibson grant through the AAG Research Trust, to investigate the effects of a multi-modal biking experience on wellbeing for people with and without dementia in residential aged care.

National Health and Climate Strategy

AAG is proud to be a member of the Climate and Health Alliance (CAHA). CAHA's mission is to build a powerful health sector movement for climate action and sustainable healthcare.

This month, AAG signed onto CAHA's joint statement calling for funding for the National Health and Climate Strategy (NHCS). There's still time to add your name to strengthen the call.
