Consultation on new Aged Care Act

Following our initial announcement on 11 January, this is a reminder for our members to come along to AAG's online drop-in consultation on the new Aged Care Act. Your input will strengthen our response to the exposure draft of the Bill.

We've set aside 90 minutes, but you can come when and for as long as you like. The Zoom session is scheduled for:

  • 12.00 to 1.30 pm AEDT on Friday 9 February 2024

Details (including the Zoom link) are on our Policy and advocacy hub page.

A route map for long lives

In addition to representing Australia's gerontology community on the international stage, AAG provides secretariat support to the International Longevity Centre - Australia (ILC-AU).

Today, we're sharing some news from our friends at ILC-UK.

One hundred not out: A route map for long lives aims to identify what policymakers in the UK should do to make the most of the opportunity of long lives.

The route map highlights how society and government need to rethink and invest more in public policies to ensure a more equitable and healthier lifetime. In so doing, it sets out wide-ranging ideas for improving health, tackling poverty, building community infrastructure and helping people build relationships and have fun throughout their lives. Although it is UK-focused, there is clear relevance to us.

All about systematic reviews

AAG is proud to be a member of the Australian Frailty Network (AFN), based at the University of Queensland.

Last year, the AFN launched The Frailty Nexus, a peer forum for research students and early-career academics with an interest in frailty. This forum facilitates targeted training, upskilling, networking and coaching to build capacity in multidisciplinary and translational frailty research.

In February, the Frailty Nexus' monthly learning event will offer a comprehensive guide on conducting systematic reviews, including the latest programs and AI to help the process. This is a great opportunity for AAG's Student and Early Career Group (SECG) members, in particular.

This event is at 3pm AEST on Wednesday 14 February, via Zoom. Further details are provided on this flyer. Registration is via an online form.
