SECG working groups

AAG Student and Early Career Group (SECG) President Dr Mikaela Wheeler has put out a call for SECG members to join one of their working groups for 2024.

This active, engaged group makes up a quarter of AAG's total membership. Participation by its members is central to its ongoing success.

Joining one of the working groups is also a great opportunity for SECG members to gain experience in the workings of a national membership organisation, develop their skills and grow their networks.

Head to the SECG webpage for more details and to access the terms of reference, which outline the roles and expectations of group members.

Current working group members should also complete the online form, but select 'I am an existing member and would like to continue in 2024'.

Expressions of interest close at 5.00 pm AEDT on 31 January 2024.

AAG 500 blog: Dementia and voluntary assisted dying

A year ago, we introduced the new AAG 500 blog. Although it’s meant to be monthly, we produced 13 last year. This year, we have a terrific line-up of members wanting to share their work or interests in the blog. Drop us a line if you’d like to contribute.

In the first AAG 500 for 2024, AAG member Adrienne Matthys discusses her PhD research on the meaning of voluntary assisted dying to people living with dementia. In a call to action to the gerontology research community, Adrienne highlights our shared responsibility to ensure that the voices of people living with dementia are at the centre of this conversation, and that policies are rights-based and research-informed.

Adrienne also invites participation in her project. Her email address is [email protected].

RACReN survey

Our friends at the Residential Aged Care Research Network (RACReN) invite you to complete and/or share this survey on issues to consider when renovating aged care facilities.

The aim of this study is to understand the information required by aged care providers to make renovation decisions and whether this perspective differs from that of other stakeholders. It also explores interrelationships between the ageing-friendly design of residential aged care facilities, renovation project management and providers’ decision-making process.

The survey is open to aged care providers and facility managers, project managers, consultants and designers who have experience in dealing with the renovation of residential aged care facilities or similar buildings. It closes on 15 February 2024.

Tomorrow, Friday 26 January, is Australia Day. We acknowledge that for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples this day is known as Survival Day, Invasion Day and the Day of Mourning.
