Navigating aged care: case studies from diverse communities

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has launched a series of case studies highlighting how older Australians from diverse backgrounds are accessing aged care services tailored to their unique needs.

These stories showcase the lived experiences of:

  • Veterans
  • LGBTI older people
  • neurodivergent individuals
  • older people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • d/Deaf and hard of hearing individual
  • older people with mental ill-health.

The case studies can help empower older adults and their carers to make informed decisions about aged care. They also help providers understand the importance of care that is:

  • culturally safe
  • trauma aware
  • healing informed
  • inclusive

Read more and review the case studies here.

MasterClass slides, AAG 58th Conference – now available

We thank everyone who attended the Friday MasterClass in Alice Springs with international experts Professor Martin Knapp and Dr Gloria Wong.

The session, Understanding the economic and policy considerations in shifting care to the community, made a deep dive into how to support people living with dementia to live well in the community while balancing economic and policy realities.

If you were there and would like a recap, you can access the slides here. We look forward to bringing you more hands on and interactive workshops at AAGConf26 in Melbourne!
