AAGRT Awardee Showcase Spotlight: Dr Abby Haynes

Dr Abby Haynes is a qualitative researcher with a background in social work and diversity health in Australia and the UK. She has a PhD in public health and an MA in information and knowledge management.

In 2023, Abby received a grant under the AAG Research Trust Hal Kendig Research Development Program. The grant funds supported the co-design of a website to centralise program components and improve accessibility and engagement with the “TOP UP” telephysiotherapy program.

The design was informed by a three-phase ‘double diamond’ model of co-design, including gathering insights through interviews, focus groups and heuristic evaluation; using ‘think aloud’ interviews to test and optimise the website prototype; and brief interviews to explore service users’ experience of the co-design process.

Read more about this innovative and impactful project, its findings and outcomes, as well as other past awardees and their successful projects, in the AAGRT Awardee Showcase.

New aged care allied health needs assessment tool - Survey closing soon

The Department of Health and Aged Care has engaged HealthConsult, in partnership with Allied Health Professions Australia and Liquid Interactive, to develop a practical, user-friendly assessment tool to identify the allied health needs of residents in aged care homes.

The tool will help providers:

  • identify when a resident needs to see an allied health professional (including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, speech pathology and podiatry)
  • monitor whether residents' allied health needs are being met
  • report data on the allied health quality indicator data point 'percentage of recommended allied health services received'.

Your feedback will help create a tool that:

  • ensures residents receive appropriate allied health care
  • uses best practice in line with up-to-date evidence
  • supports aged care providers to meet quality standards.

Complete the online survey by 23 June. You can also provide a written submission to [email protected]. Any questions about the survey or its content should be directed to [email protected].
