Remaining AAGRT grants opening soon!

The AAG Research Trust manages four grant programs that provide seed funding for research, projects and programs across the field of ageing. With the 2025 RM Gibson grant program already open, three more grant opportunities will open on Monday, 12 May 2025:

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Grant: Supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and practitioners working across the multidisciplinary field of ageing to build research skills and capacity. The program specifically seeks to fund projects that develop evidence-based knowledge about ageing through an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective and standpoint to inform policy and program development. One grant up to $25,000 on offer.

The Hal Kendig Research Development Program: Aimed at early career researchers (not practitioners) working on discrete research projects that further the interests of vulnerable older people in advanced age, with a strong emphasis on the psychosocial aspects of ageing and quality of life. Two grants of up to $25,000 each in 2025.

The Strategic Innovation Program: Aimed at early to mid-career researchers or practitioners, whose work aims to improve the experience of ageing through innovation in policy and practice. Up to two grants of up to $25,000 will be available, plus a possible additional grant through our valued partnership with the Dementia Australia Research Foundation for an application that has a substantive dementia focus.

AJA Member Research Spotlight: Intergenerational Digital Storytelling

This month’s Australasian Journal of Ageing(AJA) member research spotlight showcases research that focuses on intergenerational digital storytelling to improve identity validation and generativity in older adults. This very timely article was released during Global Intergenerational Week (#GIW25) and is a testament to the importance and power of connections between generations.

Led by AAG member, Miss Lysha Lee of Deakin University and the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), the study is an excellent example of connecting research, policy and practice, highlighting the possible benefits of using intergenerational digital storytelling as a tool to improve the psychosocial health of socially isolated, community dwelling older adults.

AAG congratulates Lysha on this important research and publication, which also included contributions from Ms Therese Den Dulk and fellow AAG members, Mr Mark Silver and Prof Sunil Bhar.

Global release of the WHO Ageism Scale

Global Intergenerational Week (#GIW25) also marked the online release of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Ageism Scale.

The WHO Ageism Scale was developed to address a gap regarding existing measures to assess ageism levels internationally, including stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination. Incorporating a manual and user guide, the scale provides practical guidance to evaluate the impact of interventions aimed at reducing ageism.

Access the scale now at the #AWorld4AllAges website.
