Thursday Three - 07 11 2024

This week’s Thursday 3 showcases AAG papers produced from topics suggested by members during Buzz Sessions held in 2023 and 2024.

You told us that you wanted AAG to consider and explore the impacts of ‘healthy ageing’ and ‘ageing well’ programs, mindfulness and ageing, and collaboration and co-design. This feedback led to the development of the following AAG reports:

  • Pathways to healthy population ageing
  • An Evidence Review of mindful ageing
  • Building trust in collaborations. Lessons from the Mpartnwe Alice Springs forum partnerships

It is our pleasure to launch these reports ahead of the #AAGConf24 in #Hobart next week, to keep the conversations going about these important topics. We thank the #DepartmentofHealthandAgedCare, 57th AAG Conference #DiamondSponsor, for funding this valuable work.

The #AAGConf24 will feature several presentations on #HealthyAgeing, #mindfulness, #collaboration and #co-design across our pre-conference workshops on Tuesday, 12th November, as well as an assortment of presentations throughout the main conference days from 13th – 15th November.

Be sure to visit the #AAG booth at the #Expo to let us know your feedback on the below papers. We’d also love to know what you would like AAG to focus on moving forward. All feedback will inform our next Buzz Session in the coming weeks.

Pathways to healthy population ageing

In our investigation, we considered key determinants of #HealthyAgeing, morbidity, the prevalence of chronic conditions, and #AgeingTrajectories that may help to highlight high-yield interventions across the life course to maximise healthy population ageing. #AAG thanks Ellen Finlay for her work on this report.

A significant body of work supports the beneficial effects of #mindfulness and mindfulness-based #interventions in different domains of life, particularly in the management of mental health conditions. There is also growing evidence in favour of mindfulness to address age-related changes that may impact #SubjectiveWellbeing. AAG thanks Dr Meg Polacsek for her work on this review.

This report outlines the principles of #engagement, #co-design and #partnership applied during the planning and delivery of the AAG and #ATSIAAG 2-day forum held in #Mparntwe Alice Springs in 2023: Ageing at the Centre: Putting Elders and older people at the heart of our work. This targeted event aimed to build #trusted #collaborations between non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal aged care services and providers in the Northern Territory. AAG thanks Ellen Finlay, ATSIAAG, Friends of ATSIAAG and our partners in Mparntwe Alice Springs whose openness and willingness to support and participate in the forum contributed to the development of this report.
