Help us celebrate AAG’s 60th Anniversary

This year marks an incredible milestone, 60 years of the Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG)! Since 1964, we've proudly stood as the national peak body representing Australia's thought leaders on ageing. Thanks to the support of members like you, AAG has been a driving force in connecting researchers, professionals, and experts across multidisciplinary fields, all in pursuit of better ageing experiences.

Now, as we prepare to celebrate this exciting chapter, we want YOU to be a part of it! We’re putting together something truly special, a presentation that captures the heart and soul of AAG, and we need your stories to make it sing. Whether you're a long-time member or a recent addition, your experiences and ideas are what make AAG unique.

Take a moment to share your AAG journey through our short survey. Have some memorable photos? Send them our way to be featured in our celebration! Plus, we’re on the lookout for members to star in our "Meet the Member" video shorts, which will be highlighted on social media and in our Thursday Three newsletter. Interested? Simply leave your details at the end of the survey.

A huge thank you to those who’ve already stepped up to contribute. We can’t wait to hear from more of you and celebrate this incredible milestone together!

AAG Preconference workshops – enhance your conference journey with these sessions

AAG Pre conference workshops are a vital part of our annual conference, these sessions are more than just learning opportunities, they offer a unique opportunity to explore, connect, and grow in the field of ageing.

This year, we’re offering four main workshops that you won’t want to miss:

  • Generations Connect workshops: Building on last year’s success, The Australian Institute for Intergenerational Practice (AIIP) and COTA Tasmania are hosting two dynamic sessions. These workshops provide a deep dive into initiating and sustaining intergenerational practice programs, equipping you with the knowledge and tools to create impactful initiatives that bridge generations.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing stream: This pre-conference stream, featuring the ATSIAAG National Workshop, is a unique opportunity to explore the rich, diverse perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, offering invaluable insights into their ageing practices.
  • Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA) and AAG Student and Early Career Group (SECG) Workshop: Don’t miss the "Listening with Images: A Photographic Workshop," where you’ll learn how to use photography to enhance research design and documentation.
  • Australasian Journal on Ageing (AJA) workshop: Ready to get published? The "Publish Before You Perish" session offers expert advice to help you navigate the publishing process.

All workshops will be held on Tuesday 12 November at the Grand Chancellor, Hobart

Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA) Conference 2024

With support from the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR), ERA is delighted to present the 22nd National Conference of Emerging Researchers in Ageing.

ERA 2024 4 December 2024 | Virtual

ERA 2024 is being chaired by Associate Professor Natasha (Tarsh) Brusco from Monash University.

The ERA 2024 conference will be held virtually, with interactive activities to maximise opportunities for participation, including:

  • parallel Oral presentation streams across the day organised into themes to enable participants to select the areas of most interest to them;
  • an Ask the ERA Brains Trust session, for selected students and early career researchers to get answers to key research questions from relevant experts; and
  • a Virtual breakout room, for attendees to connect with other emerging researchers during the conference.

All sessions will be conducted ‘live’ via Zoom (i.e., in real-time, not pre-recorded). Presenters must be available 10am - 5pm AEST on Wednesday 4 December 2024 to present live (please check your local time – ERA conference times align with our host location, in 2024 this is Victoria, which observes daylight saving). The ERA 2024 Conference Organising Committee warmly invites Honours, Masters, PhD, Professional doctoral students, and early career researchers engaged in ageing-related research from any discipline to submit an abstract for an oral presentation and/or an expression of interest (EoI) for the Ask the ERA Brains Trust session. Copies of the instructions and submission templates for oral presentations and the Brains Trust session are attached and are also available from the ERA 2024 website.

Note, emerging researchers are welcome to submit an abstract for an oral presentations as well as an EoI for the Brains Trust session. For example, researchers may seek to outline their research findings as part of an oral presentation, and then pose questions to our Brains Trust experts regarding the translation of that work or about a new research area.

The call for abstracts and EoIs will close on Wednesday 11 September 2024. Please share the attached call for abstracts with your networks.

For further information please refer to the ERA 2024 website. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us on [email protected]
