#AAGConf22 - The 55th AAG Conference - Adelaide

'Live’ and in person for the first time since 2019, over 550 delegates converged in Adelaide last week for AAG’s 55th conference. Specialist forums were hosted by AAG’s Student and Early Career Group (SECG), and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing Advisory Group (ATSIAAG), while meetings were held for the AAG divisions and Collaborative Research Centre. Initial feedback from delegates is strongly positive, with special mention given to the diversity of the conference program, the provision of a safe space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander delegates and guests in ATSIAAG ‘yarn ups’, and the value of face-to-face networking.

Putting on a conference like this would be impossible without the support of our sponsors. We extend our sincere gratitude to our major partners: Our major partner: The Department of Health and Aged Care Gold partner:

  • National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) Silver partners:
  • SA Health Office for Ageing Well and Dementia Support Australia
  • Bronze sponsors: Older Person’s Advocacy Network (OPAN) & GEN Aged Care Data
  • Ruby sponsor: Aged Care Research and Industry Innovation Australia (ARIIA)
  • Early Career partner: Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA)
  • Coffee Cart Sponsor – Meals on Wheels SA
  • Destination partners: Business Events Adelaide, South Australian Gov and Adelaide Convention Centre
  • Our Knowledge Hub Collaborative Research Centres, exhibitors and supporters.
  • Without their generous support, this event would not be possible.

We encourage all delegates to provide their feedback on the event, either through the conference app or online. Delegates would've received their follow up email with their unique link.

Finally, we thank the 2022 Conference committee; Chair - Lui Di Venuto; Scientific chair A/Prof Tim Windsor, along with fellow committee members; Dr Helen Barrie, Dr Victoria Cornell; Dr Katrina Radford; Cathy Lock; and Jo Tropea for the significant amount of time and effort they devoted to bring a wide ranging and exciting program planning and delivery of this event. By all accounts, it was a great success!

Thank you to A/Prof Marguerite Bramble

While at #AAGConf22, A/Prof Marguerite Bramble completed her term as president of the AAG Board. We acknowledge and thank Marguerite for her considerable contribution to AAG generally, and more specifically in leading the Board for the past three years. An AAG member since 2010, Marguerite has served tirelessly as a division committee member for Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania. She was co-chair for the AAG NSW Regional Conference in 2018 and has been a consistent reviewer for NSW conferences and the Australasian Journal on Ageing. In her role as AAG President, she has led the re-invigoration of the Collaborative Research Centres, represented AAG on various working groups and overseen the transformational change that coincides with the appointment of a new CEO. At this year’s annual general meeting on 16 November 2022, Marguerite was recognised as an AAG Life Member; AAG’s highest achievement.. She was also recognised as a Distinguished Member of AAG. In these photos, Marguerite receives her award at #AAGConf22 and hands the baton to new AAG president Dr Claudia Meyer.

AAG Research Trust grants committee announcement

We are pleased to introduce two new members to the AAG team. AAG Research Trust is delighted to announce new chair and program lead appointments to its grants committee. We welcome Prof Anne Marie Hill (pictured left) as incoming chair of the grants committee.

Anne Marie is Senior Principal Research Fellow in the School of Allied Health and WA Centre for Health and Ageing at The University of Western Australia. She takes over from Prof Julie Byles (pictured middle), who remains a valued member of the steering committee. We are very grateful to Julie for her significant contribution to the grants committee.

We also welcome A/Professor Tim Windsor (pictured right) as incoming program lead of the RM Gibson Program. Other program leads are Prof Keith Hill (Strategic Innovation Program), A/Prof Kate O'Loughlin (Hal Kendig Research Development Program) and Prof Ray Mahoney (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Review Panel). Through the generosity of donors, AAG Research Trust provides member-led research grants to support new ideas, projects and career development. In 2021, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander focus was established to help to address the lack of knowledge and take action to address cultural, psychological, social, economic and environmental issues amongst First Nation elders and to learn from their strengths.

AAG Research Trust grant rounds kick off in early 2023. There is a grant round for all types of research, including practitioner-led and those with demonstrable experience working with the community, early career and groups. Find out how to apply for a 2023 grant.

IAGG 2023 Asia Oceania Regional Conference (Yokohama, Japan) –
Abstract submissions extended to 26 December 2022

Symposium proposals are 13 January 2022

Every four years, the Asia Oceania Region of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics runs a regional conference, and the next one will be held in Yokohama Japan, June 12-15 2023. The IAGG regional conference provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase your research on the international stage, and for building international networks.

The regional conference also has a student and emerging researcher program embedded in the program, so there are excellent opportunities for PhD students and early career researchers from across the region to also build networks.

AAG always has a strong participation at the IAGG regional conferences, so you will also meet many of your AAG friends and colleagues there.

Abstract submissions have been extended to December 26, 2022

Symposium submissions close on January 13, 2022.

For further information about the conference, abstract submission, and registration, please see https://www.iagg2023.org/index.html
