Lived Experience Bursaries for the 2024 AAG Conference

AAG and Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care bursary offer

 

AAG is excited to announce a ‘lived experience’ bursary offer for the 2024 AAG Conference in Hobart – thanks to the generous support of the 2024 AAG Conference Diamond Sponsor, the Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care. A limited number of full conference registrations are available (see below for details). This bursary is offered to support the attendance and participation of people who will bring a diverse set of experiences and perspectives to our conference.

 

Bursary Criteria:

  • Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents with a valid Australian Visa
  • Worked or currently working as a researcher or practitioner in the aged care sector, or
  • Worked or currently working as an advocate, carer, family member, or as someone with lived experience in ageing.
  • Meets the definition of the ‘nine special needs groups’ as defined in the Aged Care Act 1997 - Indigenous Australians, people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people, veterans and people who live in rural or remote areas, people who are financially and socially disadvantaged and care leavers. This also includes people living with a disability or diagnosed with dementia.
  • Not essential, but details of your accepted abstract for the 2024 conference in Hobart.
  • Have no other source of financial support to attend the conference.
  • Anyone awarded another 2024 AAG Conference bursary affiliated with the AAG (such as from a national, state or territory division) will be deemed ineligible.

 

Application Deadline:

  • Applications close Monday, 30 September 2024.
  • Successful recipients will be notified by Friday, 4 October 2024, and must register by Friday, 18 October 2024, using the provided special award code. (If already registered, reimbursement for the ticket amount will be arranged.)

  • Abstract details if applicable: include title, presentation type, and your role in the research, advocacy, or practice.
  • A statement (300 words max) explaining how this scholarship will benefit you, your work, and your contributions to AAG, gerontology, and your community.

 

Expectations of Applicants:

  • Acknowledge AAG and the Diamond Sponsor during your presentation.
  • Arrange your own travel and accommodation. (Reimbursement available if already registered and paid for conference registration.)
  • Write a 1-page report on your experience at the conference, which may be shared on the AAG webpage or the AAG 500 blog.
