Policy, Research and Grants Officer

  • Remuneration: $90,000 plus superannuation

We are looking for a skilled policy and research officer that can administer our grants programme. This is a full-time role that works across AAG and the AAG Research Trust. While this role reports to the Policy and Research Manager, candidates will be required to work independently and be self sufficient in delivering required outcomes. 

ORGANISATION BACKGROUND

AAG is Australia’s only independent, impartial membership organisation whose over-arching aim is to improve the experience of ageing by connecting research, policy and practice. The AAG Research Trust is the research funding arm of the AAG that offers a range of grant programs open to AAG members.

WHAT WILL THE POLICY RESEARCH AND GRANT OFFICER DO?

The Policy, Research and Grants Officer will undertake a range of activities to help meet AAG’s commitments to:

  • Inform and supporting the development of evidence-based policy; and
  • Promote evidence-based practice improvements.
  • Deliverables and deadlines for various tasks will align with the different grant, policy and research programs and schedules.
  • Administer the grants programs of the AAG Research Trust, including support for continuous improvement practices.

  • A genuine interest in the key issues relating to ageing and aged care in Australia;
  • Strong writing and stakeholder engagement skills;
  • Strong administrative skills, with the ability to multi-task in performing and monitoring different tasks and deadlines;
  • Demonstrated research, analytical and planning skills; and
  • The ability to work independently and as an integral part of a small team to manage multiple tasks and competing demands.
  • All AAG staff work from home, so you must be comfortable and capable of working remotely, while engaging as an integral member of the AAG team.

WHAT ARE MY KEY TASKS?

Under the supervision of the Policy and Research Manager, the Policy, Research and Grants Officer will:

  • Curate research and other evidence to support AAG’s policy, research and advocacy agenda;
  • Monitor sector developments to identify potential areas for policy, research and advocacy activities;
  • Develop and disseminate communications aimed at a range of audiences, purposes and platforms;
  • Provide operational support to external stakeholders who contribute to AAG’s policy, research and advocacy agenda, including AAG’s various special interest groups.
  • Contribute to the development of reports, submissions, position statements and grant applications;
  • Administer the grant programs of the AAG Research Trust, including:
  • Developing and implementing guidelines, templates, procedures and schedules relating to grant programs;
  • Monitoring and managing the timely processing of awardee contracts and invoices;
  • Ongoing monitoring and management of awardee progress;
  • Promoting grant programs through targeted communications; and
  • Supporting the Grants Committee in the assessment and selection of awardees.

QUALIFICATIONS

 A bachelor’s degree in a health and/or policy-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in project administration, particularly with research projects, and/or a good understanding of research and grant processes;
  • A good understanding of government, peak body and sector policy and programs relevant to ageing and aged care;
  • Well-developed research and analysis skills, including experience in providing evidence-based policy advice, developing policy positions, writing policy papers and/or advocating for policy change;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple work tasks and deadlines;
  • Proficiency in a range of information and communication technologies.

OTHER

  • Available to travel interstate when required
  • Willing to provide a police check
  • Authorised to work in Australia (working visa, Australian citizen or permanent resident)
