Main event: Hear from Shannon Jarrott, building on her AAG Conference presentations. Shannon will speak on best intergenerational practices. This presentation will emphasise specific practices that intergenerational activity leaders can use to increase positive experiences for young and older participants. A brief review of theory and research informing these practices will be included. Workshop attendees will learn about a complimentary evaluation resource.

Professor Shannon Jarrott
Ohio State University

Shannon Jarrott, Ph.D. is a professor of social work at The Ohio State University. She specializes in community-based services, emphasizing shared programming for youth and older persons. Her research of implementation and outcomes of evidence-based intergenerational practice with diverse participants reflects a community-based participatory approach. Shannon is Behavioural and Social Sciences chair for the Gerontological Society of America and Editor of The Journal of Intergenerational Relationships. more

 

Dennis Wild
PhD candidate, Flinders University
An interdisciplinary project covering - social gerontology, cultural theory, philosophy of technology, intergenerationality - within an Arts Based Research (poetic inquiry) methodology.

 

 

 

The Wisdom Club:    
The Wisdom Club is a pilot intergenerational project co-designed with the leadership team from a local school in Adelaide’s southern suburbs, and older adults from the community. Focused around the playing of maths-based games once a week, the aims of Wisdom Club are to (i) provide older volunteers with an opportunity to take part in meaningful generative activity, (ii) provide young primary school aged children with additional support for their learning through positive older role models, and (iii) contribute to strong, diverse school communities.

Associate Professor Tim Windsor
Director of the Generations Research Initiative
Tim Windsor is Director of the Generations Research Initiative in the College of Education, Psychology and Social work at Flinders University. Tim’s background is in lifespan developmental psychology and his research focuses on psychological and social factors that promote engagement with life in older adulthood and ageing well.
