Queensland Division Chair Katrina Radford will give a plenary presentation at the LASA Queensland conference on the Gold Coast in April. Kat will speak about the innovative models for future workforce.

Industry and policy news
- Australian Ageing Agenda reports that service and education provider Churches of Christ in Queensland has partnered with home care provider Community Vision Australia and its subsidiary Fortis Consulting to take a dementia-training tool to Western Australia.
- The first North Queensland Regional Plan has now been finalised. The North Queensland Regional Plan has a 25-year vision for the region and will come into effect in March 2020. View the plan at qld.gov.au/PlanNQ.
- For those in Brisbane an interested in community design, Brisbane's Better Suburbs Initiative has been established to investigate opportunities for renewal in suburbs that are outside the city's inner five kilometres. The first pilot project area for the Better Suburbs Initiative to identify opportunities is within Moorooka. You can subscribe to keep updated here.
- QCOSS' A Queensland Renewed: Priority Action Plan 2020 has been released. It sets out the key priorities and actions QCOSS members consider most important for the state government to deliver on over the next 12 months and more.
Research and teaching news
- Those who know Professor Helen Bartlett from her UQ days will be interested to hear that she is leaving Federation University to take up a new position as Vice-Chancellor at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
- Intergenerational care practice may offer future career pathways according to Griffith University researchers. Professor Anneke Fitzgerald and Dr Katrina Radford from Griffith Business School said their findings recommended a training qualification for such a career.
- Joanne Edgar, an Honours student from the School of Psychology and Counselling, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), is conducting a research project examining the attitudes of Australian adults toward leaving a bequest to charity in their Will. - Receiving occupational therapy at home has been found to be effective for people living with dementia, according to a UQ-led study. Read more

Events and announcements
Funding
- Ten grants of $1000 are on offer for story ideas that challenge stereotypes of ageing. The story ideas will be selected and made into short documentaries for the B.OLD 2020: be B.OLDer short film series. The Queensland Government have created some promotional materials, including posters, social media shareables and a signature block, for you to distribute through your networks. They are looking for older people who are active and engaged in community life, such as volunteers, Elders, athletes, artists, entrepreneurs or employees. The stories could also: feature individuals, groups and activities in regional and remote settings, explore intergenerational connections, celebrate different cultures and experience. Their crews will work with local individuals and organisations to create the short documentary films to be screened around the state as part of Seniors Month in August. - A reminder that Seniors Month subsidy application are open! Funded by the Queensland Government and coordinated by COTA Queensland, the program provides $100,000 to subsidise events and activities held during Seniors Month. Organisations and groups can apply for up to $1000 for an event. Seniors Month subsidy applications will open Monday 3 February at 9am and close Sunday 15 March at 11:59pm. - Centre for Palliative Care Research and Education (CPCRE) 2020 Update Symposium: Supportive Care of the Older Person will be held 27 March 2020 Chermside, Brisbane Registrations open
- A reminder that Dementia Australia is hosting a masterclass with Professor Dawn Brooker. Dawn developed the VIP’s care framework used internationally to assist organisations assess the extent to which their practice is person-centred. The Brisbane masterclass is on Thursday 26 March 2020. These practical masterclasses are specifically run for managers and healthcare professionals responsible for the implementation of the new Aged Care Quality Standards.
- The LASA State Conferences 2020 will focus on Ageing Well - from policy to practice. The Queensland State Conference will be held 1-2 April 2020 on the Gold Coast. Find more information and register here.
- QCOSS' State Budget Breakfast will be held on Friday 1 May at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. https://www.qcoss.org.au/
