If you are a clinician (or know of a clinician) working on a new model of care (for example, GPs or nurse practitioners using telehealth) or just doing something different or innovative as a clinician for your patients due to COVID-19, email [email protected]

  • For the first time in its 60-year history, Queensland’s annual celebration of seniors is going virtual. To do this it will maintain the week format, celebrating from Saturday 15 – Sunday 23 August 2020.  This year more than ever people need something to celebrate, in the safest way possible. That is why this year the usually interactive event will completely transform into an online affair. Queensland Seniors Week is thinking outside the box and are looking to launch a full calendar of events virtually and physically, if allowed. Using platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Zoom and Instagram Live, the new-look event, to be held throughout 15-23 August 2020, will require the skills of entertainers and those in the arts to provide virtual shows, fitness industry experts to hold exercise classes, chefs to host cooking demonstrations and much more. Do you have a virtual event or performance you would like to share? Register your events at www.qldseniorsweek.org.au or phone 07 3316 2908.
  • Queensland Community Services Peaks released a Joint COVID-19 Advocacy Statement
  • 1300 PALLCR (1300 725527) is now a 24/7 advice hotline for nurses and allied health professionals to speak directly with a specialist palliative care nurse. This change, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, helps to reduce avoidable hospital admissions and supports people in the last year of their life to access the right care, at the right time and in the setting of their choice. For further information, visit the website or contact [email protected].
  • A suite of practical resources for bereaved families, friends and carers is in the final stages of development. The suite of resources includes a list of relevant contacts and provides information on grief, loss, self-care and some suggested steps to take after someone has died. Orders are now being accepted for the English language resources. To place an order, please contact [email protected].
  • The Decision-making and End-of Life-care in Emergency (DandELinE) project supports inter-disciplinary emergency teams with tools, decision support and resources. These are now available on the Clinical Excellence Queensland website. The DandELinE model focuses on early assessment of patients at or near end-of-life in the Emergency Department. It emphasises shared decision-making between the patient who is approaching the end of life, their family/carer and the treating team.
