We are pleased to share the following updates:

  1. Upcoming event:
    • The AAG Committee is pleased to host this year’s Glenda Powell Travelling Fellow – Associate Professor Peter Bragge from Monash University:
      • Peter will be presenting on: How to achieve authentic co-design with and for older Australians
      • In addition, Associate Professor Kasia Bail (University of Canberra) and Dr Diane Hosking (National Seniors) will be presenting some of their findings and example related to co-design
      • WHEN & WHERE: 5 pm on Monday the 8th of August at the ANU - Bob Douglas Lecture Theatre, 62A Eggleston Road, Canberra

  2. Other upcoming events:
    • The National Gallery of Australia has launched a new Art for Wellbeing program:
      • The NGA invites you on a creative journey to support wellbeing and mental health. This new monthly initiative combines discussion, art making and a simple word exercise in response to three works of art on display.
      • The monthly sessions start this Saturday at 2 pm. More information here.
  3. The ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR) is holding an event at UNSW in Sydney entitled: “Diversity and Ageing Symposium: Population and Individual Ageing Perspectives”:
    • The event will be held on the 8th of September. More information can be found here.
  4. The Centre for Research in Aged Care at Edith Cowan University, in partnership with the Australian Hartford Consortium of Gerontological Nursing Excellence is hosting a six-day virtual “Australiasian Conference on Care of Older People”:
    • The conference will be held between the 23rd and 28th of October.

  5. 20th National Conference of Emerging Researchers in Ageing will be held virtually this year on the 10th of November:
    • Abstract submission closes on the 14th of August.

  6. The 55th AAG Conference will return to face-to-face in 2022:
    • The conference will be held in Adelaide between the 22nd and 25th of November.
    • This year’s theme is “The Future of Ageing Well”.
    • Conference bursaries will be available again this year – details will be announced soon.
  7. CHARM Conference Winners:
    • Congratulations to the winners of this year's AAG Awards at the CHARM Conference:
  8. AAG Award for the Best Poster Related to Ageing: Sylvia Nelson, University of Canberra. Evidence informed generalist palliative care content for undergraduate nursing curriculum: An integrative review
  9. Scholarships available:
    • The Australian Nurses Memorial Centre have several scholarships available for nurses and midwives as part of its mission to act as “a living memorial” by advancing the nursing profession through education. Please click here for more information.
    • The University of Canberra has a PhD Scholarship available to investigate new dementia care and support models. Find out more information here.
    • CSIRO and The University of Melbourne have a PhD scholarship available titled “Interactions between the human gut microbiome and food matrices on metabolite formation and a person’s health outcomes.” Please reply to this email if you would like more information.
  10. AIWH seeking EL1 Team Leader:
    • The AIHW is seeking a dedicated and experienced EL1 Team Leader with strong statistical skills to lead aspects of its work program and to manage a small team of Data Analysts. This role would ideally suit someone with previous professional or technical experience in ageing and aged care data and analysis, and strong statistical and report writing skills.   11. Participants needed for Canberra Health Services and UC program for people living with dementia and carers:
    • A new 12-week support program named “SPICE” is starting soon at the University of Canberra Hospital, primarily facilitated by Canberra Health Services.
    • The SPICE program includes physical activity, nutrition assessment, group activities, education, and carer support. It is part of a research study, and participants will receive a $100 gift voucher at the end.
    • It is suitable for people with dementia with a spouse, carer or family member who can take part, and are also living in the community.

  12. Dementia carer support group – Frontotemporal dementia:
    • Spread the word about the monthly group run by Dementia Australia. The next group is on the 31st of August.
