- Upcoming Local Events:
- Next week, between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm on the 4th of November, 2021, we will hold a student meet and greet at the Retro Café in Building 22 at the University of Canberra.
- Come meet and network with other AAG student members in the lead up to the National Conference.
- All undergraduate, post-graduate and ECR’s are welcome to attend.
- Please reply to this email to RSVP and let us know if you have any special dietary requests.
- The ACT Division is also looking to add a student representative to the committee for 2022. Please join us next week and let us know if you are interested.
- AAG National Conference:
- The 54th AAG Conference will be held virtually between the 9th and 12th of November 2021
- The theme this year is For the Future: Innovation in Ageing
- Congratulations to Sally Mordike (Charles Sturt University), Yushan Zou (University of Canberra), and Tergel Namsrai (Australian National University) for being awarded conference bursaries. All three are presenting at the conference, and we are looking forward to your talks!
- We are accepting applications for conference bursaries. If you are interested in attending on behalf of the ACT committee or know someone who is an:
- Older people interested in ageing;
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; or
- Carer, healthcare worker, or advocate for older people
Please have them email [email protected] with up 100 words on why you would like to attend the virtual conference. Submissions close at 5 pm on the 1st of November, 2021.
- Department of Health consultation on allocating aged care places:
- The Australian Government’s response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety outlines a plan aimed at improving choice in residential aged care. A new process is being designed to assign places directly to senior Australians rather than to providers.
- Interested members are encouraged to review the consultation material and respond via the online survey, available here.
- AAG and Reconciliation
- Are you interested in hearing more about AAG’s reconciliation journey and getting involved? If so, let us know.
- In 2020, AAG launched their first Reconciliation Action Plan. Some resources from this can be found.
- Seminar tomorrow on Therapeutic Gardening and Healthy Ageing:
- The Future of Food Group at the University of Canberra is hosting three engaging talks tomorrow about the therapeutic benefits of gardening on healthy ageing.
- The speakers are Dr Theresa Scott (University of Queensland), Dr Pauline Marsh (University of Tasmania), and AAG ACT Student Member Elizabeth Low (University of Canberra)
- The talks will be delivered on Zoom at 3:30 pm on Tuesday the 26th of October
