With our annual Hot Topic, we direct our attention towards a particular policy, research or practice agenda.
Over the year, the Hot Topic provides a focus for policy and advocacy activities, including executive roundtables, live and online forums, position papers and other publications.
AAG's Hot Topic was previously led by a single Australian expert on the topic, who travelled to at least three AAG Divisions under the Glenda Powell Travelling Fellow program. In 2024, the AAG Board approved the renaming of the program to 'The Glenda Powell Hot Topic Expert'. This change sees the AAG National Office team use their expertise to propose a Hot Topic that reflects member suggestions and current priorities in policy and practice. AAG Divisions then nominate a local expert on the current Hot Topic and make arrangements to suit their calendars, member preferences and operational management.
The Hot Topic for 2026 is “The Disease Divide: Addressing Chronic Conditions and Health Inequity in Older Australians".
