Dr Joanna Hikaka (Ngaruahine)

Joanna Hikaka (Ngaruahine) is a pharmacist and health researcher with clinical and research experience in older adult health, Maori health and health service development. Jo has worked across primary, secondary and aged residential care setting and completed her PhD in 2021. She usually resides in Auckland New Zealand, but is currently at Brown University, Rhode Island, as a Fulbright Visiting Researcher. Her current research focusses on pro-equity health intervention development.

Lara Vlietstra is a lecturer in physical activity and health in the School of Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. After successfully graduating as a physiotherapist in the Netherlands, she obtained two master’s degrees before coming to Otago to complete her PhD in pre-sarcopenia in 2021.

Associate Lecturer & PhD Candidate
The University of Queensland
Mikaela is an associate lecturer and PhD Candidate at the University of Queensland. Her research interests focus on nutrition for the elderly, particularly for those who live in residential aged care homes. She is also currently the convenor of the Professional Development and Events Group within the SECG.
