An assessment package and relational approach for supporting
a good life for older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Cultural safety and quality of life are vital components of the revised quality standards being piloted for aged care. Older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ views of what quality of life means, and how it can be better supported within a culturally responsive framework will be discussed.

We will provide training on delivering the validated Good Spirit Good Life assessment and approach to care with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The factors important to having a good life will be explained, and examples given.

A mock assessment will be conducted and simple strategies for care providers and health professionals to support older people to have a good life will be presented.
