Join us for an engaging and informative public seminar that explores the importance of self-care in promoting healthy ageing within our communities. This event will provide valuable insights, practical tips, and strategies for individuals, families, and communities to thrive as they age. 

  • Self-care during difficult times (e.g., keeping physically healthy, mental and emotional wellbeing, managing stress, the power of social relationships)
  • How do we build supportive communities? (e.g., intergenerational programs, accessible and age-friendly communities)
  • Practical self-care strategies (e.g., self-care toolkits, tips & tricks, supporting caregivers, technology, and innovations for healthy living)  
  • Panel discussion (e.g., sharing self-care journeys and experiences, caregivers and community members’ support roles, Q&A session)
  • Networking reception.
 

Hear from three distinguished speakers, each bringing their unique perspectives:

Dr Gareth Furber 
Mental Health Project Officer within Health, Counselling and Disability Services (HCDS) at Flinders University
Gareth is a psychologist who works as the eMental Health Project Officer within Health, Counselling and Disability Services (HCDS) at Flinders University. He writes, teaches, and delivers programs on mental health, self-care, productivity, behaviour change and healthy habit formation. 

 

 

 

Prof Malcolm Battersby
Professor of Psychiatry of Flinders University
and Clinical Director of the  Southern Adelaide Mental Health Services

Malcolm is Professor of Psychiatry of Flinders University and Clinical Director of the  Southern Adelaide Mental Health Services. He established the Flinders Human Behaviour and Health Research Unit and cognitive behavioural post graduate courses at Flinders University. 

 

 

 

Ms Penelope McMillan 
Consumer advocate

Penelope is an experienced consumer advocate across ageing, disability, carers, chronic illness. Penelope is Chair of ME/CFS Australia and has been a consumer member of several national-level advisory committees.
