Housing and the Built Environment (HBE) SIG

 

The Housing and the Built Environment SIG was approved at the June 2016 AAG Board meeting.

The purpose of the HBESIG is:

 
  • To facilitate opportunity for exchange and collaboration between researchers, practitioners and service providers with an interest in housing and built environment research and practice.
  • To share knowledge, expertise, and interest in housing and built environment research and practice.
  • To identify future housing and built environment research directions, through the intersection of service providers, practitioners and researchers.
  • To provide advice to inform AAG’s advocacy position in relation to the diverse housing needs and desires of older Australians; and the impact of the built environment on the independence, health, wellbeing and quality of life of older Australians.

 

The HBESIG has led a number of AAG activities, including but not limited to:

 

  • 2019 AAG submission in response to the review of Victorian Retirement Villages Act 1986
  • AAG and Australian Network of Universal Housing Design (ANUHD) 2018-20 submissions to the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB)
  • AAG 2018 Position Paper "Regulating accessible housing enables all Australians to age in a place of their choosing"
  • AAG 2018 Collaborative papers on older women experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness
  • AAG 2018 webinar: Ageing on the Edge - Older People at Risk of Homelessness
  • COTA Australia National Policy Forum 2017 on AAA Housing for Older Australians - links to power point presentations
  • AAG 2016 submission to the Victorian Parliament Inquiry into Retirement Housing
  • AAG 2016 webinar You can’t have home care if you don’t have a home” - a look at the intersection between housing and aged care in later life
  • AAG and HARI 2016 forum The Built Environment - Planning for an Ageing Society

Membership of our SIGs is open to current financial AAG members only. To join one just sign in to your membership account via our website and go to the Special Interest Groups tab in your membership profile. Select the groups you would like to join by checking the boxes.
