The Australian Association of Gerontology invites you to learn about the research and projects taking place in the ACT while networking and developing connections. This showcase aims to disseminate current research, foster collaboration, stimulate innovative ideas, and bring the ageing research community together in the ACT region.
The keynote speaker will be Dr Michael Chapman launching his book “Rethinking Dementia” which challenges readers to view dementia not as an individual condition but as a process of change that affects entire social and relational systems, while questioning traditional values of autonomy, individualism, and personhood. The book acknowledges dementia as a tragic and feared condition that challenges our perspectives on living and ageing, while encouraging scholars and policy-makers to reconsider how cultural narratives might limit possibilities in dementia care.
