AAG Board Director appointed to Council of Elders

Congratulations to Adjunct Prof Gill Lewin, AAG Board director and former AAG President, for being appointed as one of the 14 members in the newly formed Aged Care Council of Elders. The Council of Elders was formed on the recommendation of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety to provide a formal platform from which members can advise Government on all aspects of aged care reform.

The Aged Care Council of Elders is a group of senior Australians who will play a critical role in making sure that those most central to the system, senior Australians, have input into shaping the aged care system. The Council will provide advice from senior Australians to the Government about aged care reform and ageing generally. To do so the council will consult with senior Australians on a range of matters including:

  • Aged care quality and safety
  • The needs of senior Australians and their families and carers
  • The rights and dignity of senior Australians.

The council comprises a mix of diverse backgrounds and talents, including AAG friends and previous AAG Conference invited speakers including Ms Val Fell and Dr Kay Patterson AO.

The Council of Elders will serve a two-year term and meet six times per year, or more frequently as required.
